Habitat Management
Habitat Design & Construction, Habitat Reclamation, and Fish & Wildlife Inventory.
Cascade Environmental Resource Group Ltd. specializes in a variety of habitat management projects. Habitat mitigation and compensation are often a
requirement of land use and development permits. The goal of many habitat management projects is to encourage wildlife breeding and foraging by
constructing or rehabilitating a deteriorated habitat. CERG biologists employ site specific flora and fauna knowledge to produce custom designed
habitats that seamlessly integrate into the natural environment of a specific geographic location.

Aquatic Habitat Design & Construction
CERG has been involved with several DFO-authorized HADD (harmful alteration, disruption or destruction of fish habitat) projects. We have been responsible for the
design, construction monitoring, and post construction habitat assessments of salmonid spawning and rearing habitats as required for compensation of aquatic and riparian losses
caused by developments. Examples of such projects include the design of rearing ponds at Garibaldi Springs Golf Course, spawning channels along Mashiter Creek and through
Brennan Park Recreation Centre, and spawning rearing habitat connected to Loggers Lane Creek. Post construction monitoring includes juvenile fish sampling, spawner surveys
and redd counts, and aquatic and riparian habitat assessments.

Wetland Surveys, Design, Construction, & Enhancement
Wetlands function as water filtration systems to remove suspended solids and heavy metals from the water column. In addition to enhancing water treatment,
constructed wetlands create habitats and enhance existing habitat for a wide range of native species that utilize wetlands for breeding and foraging.
CERG designed and constructed wetlands at the Whistler Village parking lots and the Whistler Athlete Village to treat stormwater runoff from roadways.

Habitat Reclamation
Site reclamation is the process of rehabilitating a site that has sustained environmental degradation. Rehabilitation may involve erosion control,
stream complexing, wetland creation, re-vegetation, and monitoring to quantify success. CERG provides analysis to determine pre-existing ecosystems,
develops strategies to best stabilize soils and initiate plant growth, and provides design stage mapping for stream and wetland creation.

Fish & Wildlife Inventory
Fish and wildlife surveys are conducted to inventory the number of different species and individuals in an area. Surveys can include observation of
individuals or observation of animal tracks or marks. CERG conducts fish, amphibian, reptile, bird, raptor, and large mammal inventories in areas where
development may occur.
